The Nature of COA Licensing

Cognitive Architecture is upstream intellectual infrastructure. It shapes how institutions think, not how they execute. Licensing COA is therefore not a commercial transaction. It is an agreement to operate within the discipline’s interpretive boundaries.

A COA license grants an institution the right to use, apply, and integrate Bohemialab’s cognitive‑architectural artifacts within its internal governance, AI programs, or strategic reasoning environments. It does not grant the right to modify, repackage, operationalize, or translate COA into methodologies, toolkits, or delivery frameworks.

Licensing protects the altitude of the discipline and ensures that COA is used coherently, without dilution or misinterpretation.


Why Licensing Exists

COA is neither a framework nor a method. It is not a consulting instrument. It is a discipline.

Licensing exists to:

  • Preserve the integrity of the cognitive‑architectural primitives

  • Prevent downstream firms from flattening COA into delivery guidance

  • Ensure institutions apply COA within its intended interpretive layer

  • Maintain authorship and protect the discipline from repackaging

  • Establish clear boundaries around institutional use

Licensing is a structural safeguard, not a commercial upsell.


What a COA License Permits

A valid COA institutional license grants the following rights:

  • Internal Use Institutions may use COA artifacts internally for governance reasoning, AI program design, strategic cognition, and interpretive alignment.

  • Internal Distribution Licensed institutions may distribute COA materials within their organization (teams, departments, labs) as long as distribution remains internal and non-public.

  • Integration into Cognitive Systems Institutions may integrate COA primitives into internal AI governance models, reasoning systems, or cognitive architectures; provided the integration does not reframe COA as an operational methodology.

  • Use in Training and Internal Education Institutions may use COA materials to train internal teams on cognitive architecture, interpretive governance, and organizational reasoning.


What a COA License Does Not Permit

To protect the discipline, a COA license does not allow:

  • Repackaging COA into frameworks, toolkits, or methodologies

  • Using COA as part of consulting offerings or client deliverables

  • Public redistribution, publication, or open posting of COA materials

  • Creating derivative works or modified versions of COA artifacts

  • Embedding COA primitives into commercial products or platforms

  • Translating COA into operational guidance or implementation playbooks

These prohibitions maintain altitude and prevent dilution.


Types of Licenses

1. Individual License (Included with Workbook Purchase)

Grants a single practitioner the right to use COA materials personally. Not valid for institutional use, team distribution, or organizational integration.


2. Institutional License

Grants an organization the right to use COA internally across teams, departments, and programs. Includes internal distribution rights and integration rights.


3. Applied AI Lab License

Designed for AI labs, research groups, and cognitive‑systems teams. Allows integration of COA primitives into internal AI reasoning systems, governance models, and cognitive architectures. Does not allow embedding COA into commercial AI products.


4. Enterprise Governance License

For large institutions using COA to align governance cognition across multiple units. Includes extended internal distribution and multi‑team integration rights. Requires a formal interpretive alignment agreement.


How Licensing Works

Licensing is intentionally simple and non‑commercial in tone.

  1. Institution submits an inquiry via the Contact page describing intended use.

  2. Bohemialab evaluates interpretive alignment ensuring the institution’s intended use respects the discipline.

  3. A licensing agreement is issued outlining permitted use, boundaries, and non‑dilution requirements.

  4. Institution receives access credentials for internal distribution and integration.

Licensing is not automated. It is a deliberate interpretive process.


Pricing

Licensing fees vary based on:

  • Institutional size

  • Scope of internal distribution

  • Depth of integration

  • Whether the license is for governance, applied AI, or enterprise cognition

Pricing is structured to reflect stewardship of the discipline, not commercial scaling.
